Around half point of the lesson, we’ll take a small break for refresh. You can bring something small to eat, sandwich, cookie, drink, etc. And there are a coffee and tea vending machine.

Are there short-term intensive courses of Sumi-e? open and close

Exceptionally, only for the basic course, we can provide the short-term intensive course for the person who lives in the distance place from our school.

About Materials

I don't have any materials for Sumi-e, are these necessity? And, where can I get all them? open and close

Materials are necessary for practice at home after lessons for your progress.
You can get all materials and paper at our school.
These materials we sell are selected only good quality and carryed from Japan. Please be relieved for purchase.

What stuff shold I bring for my first lesson ? open and close

FOR YOUR FIRST LESSON, please bring an old clean towel (No need brand-new one) and Tissues (Toilet paper is enough) at the lesson. The towel size is about 30cm x 20cm or bigger. We’ll use the towel to adjust ink of brush and to dry brush. Tissues (or Toilet paper) is for cleaning the Ink-stone (Suzuri) and the painting dish.

ALL OTHER MATERIALS WILL BE PROVIDED for your first lesson, EXCEPT PAPERS for Sumi-e, because they're consumable. Please buy paper at the lesson. If you have your materials and paper, you can bring them with you. *For the details of paper, click here [paper]

AFTER THE FIRST LESSON, (from your 2nd lesson), please prepare your own materials for practicing at home. It's important for progress. Of course you can buy all sumi-e materials from the school, at the lesson. They're quality professional use. We strongly recommend them to save your money in the long run. I have a Japanese brush for calligraphy, is it suit Sumi-e? open and close

Basically, a brush for Sumi-e and a brush for calligraphy are different kind of brush. Their hair's length and brush's matter are different.
For painting beautiful Sumi-e, please prepare a brush for Sumi-e.
